    SOLD Watercolor painting of a beautifully rendered schnauzer terrier sitting on their haunches and looking directly at the viewer. The dog’s dark eye stand out vividly against their grey and white coat.

    About the Artist:

    An Ohio native, Will Rannells was born in 1892 in Caldwell, and died in 1982 at his home in Westerville. He served for 35 years as Professor of Commercial Art at Ohio State University, retiring in 1961. In 1916, Rannells began painting dogs, rather than girls, and  in the 1920s his portraits appeared on the covers of such magazines as Judge, Life, and McCalls. He also illustrated Aldon Roark’s book Just a Mutt, published in 1947. Other children’s books with his illustrations are Waif, the Story of Spe, Animal Baby Knows, Jack, Jack and Funny, Timmy, and Animal Picture Story Book.
