About the Designer:
Hugh Acton (1925-2018) was based primarily in Kalamazoo, Michigan working as a designer, artist, and craftsman, bringing American craft tradition and Scandinavian mid century modern design together in pieces that emphasize principles of form and functionality with an artful design. A graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art, Acton went on to work for General Motors’ Technical Center before starting his own furniture company, which he would later sell to Brunswick Furniture Company. He continued to independently design, receiving notable awards such as the American Institute of Design Prize.
