Circa 1916, a numbered lithograph, edition #18, by Columbus, Ohio born artist George Bellows(1882-1925)Prayer Meeting, First Stone, the first of two editions, shows a rougher draft approach to the more polished style we are more familiar in his work. On a trip in Maine, Bellows sat in on a religious ceremony performed in a house, which from memory, this artwork was sourced. Signed by the artist, this lithograph can be seen in collections from institutions such as the Cleveland Museum of Art.

    About the Artist:

George Bellows(1882-1925) was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, but left before his graduation from Ohio State in 1904. Considered one of the most important realist painters of the time, Bellows was known for his realist depictions of urban life in New York City.  A student of Robert HenriBellows would advocate for the individual in his work, often times standing at odds of his fellow social circle of artists.
