  • Product description

This grandiose 16-inch tall cut crystal vase is from Saint-Louis’ prestigious Medicis Collection. It is the tallest of three different sizes produced in this pattern. The design features hand-cut diamonds throughout with cut panels on the rim. The bottom of the base is etched with the Saint-Louis factory mark; the original label is near the top.

The Medicis Collection is patterned after the original Medici vase which was a monumental, bell-shaped marble piece sculpted in Athens, Greece in the second half of the 1st century AD as a garden ornament for the Roman market. It has served as an inspiration for artwork for centuries. The vase reappeared in the 1598 inventory of the Medici family ville in Rome, was transferred from the villa in 1780, and has been displayed ever since in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.

    About the Company:

Saint-Louis began crafting crystal products in 1586 in Saint-Louis Les-Bitche in France. It is the oldest glass manufacturer in Europe. In 1767, Louis XV issued a Royal Warrant to the factory and thus established the Verrerie Royale de Saint-Louis (Saint-Louis Royal Glassworks). Saint-Louis has been producing world class crystal for almost 200 years. Several of patterns from the first quarter of the 19th century are still in production. Its tableware graces the tables of royalty and heads of state throughout the world.
