“Regatta at the Port of Trouville” is a hand-colored lithograph by Raoul Dufy. Bold and bright pastel tones create a stylized scene of sailboats with colorful buildings along the coastline. Signed and dated 1938.
About the Artist:
Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) was a French artist who painted in the Fauvist style. A multi-talented man, Dufy also was a printmaker, a planner of public spaces, an illustrator, a scenic designer, draftsman, and a furniture designer. Influenced by the works of Henri Matisse and others exhibiting at the Salon des Independants, Dufy pursued the Fauvist style with heavy contours and bold colors. His style later lightened, thanks to exposure to Paul Cezanne. In addition to a fine arts painter, he grew a reputation as a muralist and commercial artist.
