    About the Designer:
Vladimir Kagan (1927-2016) was an American furniture designer who emigrated to the United States from Germany during the rise of the Nazi. The son of a Russian cabinetmaker, Kagan studied architecture and design before joining his father in the woodworking shop, where he learned how to make furniture. He designed for major companies such as Walt Disney, General Electric, and General Motors as well as celebrities like Marilyn Monroe. His hallmark works were sculptural wood designs that were organically shaped. His design philosophy was driven by comfort and functionality, with broad influences such as antiques, nature, and the Bauhaus.
