About the Artist:
Kiyoshi Saito (1907-1997) was a Japanese artist within the sōsaku-hanga movement, which operated under the tenants that the artist was exclusive creator of art for the sake of self-expression as opposed to shin-hanga, which was a collaborative effort between artist, carver, printer, and publisher. His focus throughout his career was on Japanese architecture, his later works infusing modern elements.
