Jacque Villon (1875-1963) was a skilled printmaker living in Paris. This etching titled “The Poet” uses a striking linear technique to depict a man. Signed on plate by artist, dated ‘33. Hand signed on print. Writing in corner may say “épreuve Artiste”, which would indicate an artist proof.

    About the Artist:
    Jacques Villon (1875-1963)
, born Emile Méry Frédéric Gaston Duchamp, was a French Cubist artist who also was a printmaker and abstract painter. He was born to a wealthy and artistic family, and was the eldest of three successful artist siblings including Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968). He moved to Montmartre in Paris with his brother Raymond Duchamp in 1894. He focused heavily on his printmaking starting in 1906, primarily in drypoint method. He remained fairly isolated despite the fact that he was a part of a bustling art scene, making him obscure for many years.
