    Large oil on canvas featuring a scene on the Delaware River in Pennsylvania / New Jersey. Signed in the lower right corner. Nice carved wood frame original to the period in which the piece was painted (1950's). 


    About the Artist:

    George Schwacha Jr. (American 1908-1986) was born in Newark, New Jersey and studied with Arthur W. Woelfle; John Grabach; E. Dufner; A. Schweider. Throughout his career, he was a painter and teacher and was active in many professional artist associations and was a past president of the American Artists Professional League, the Audobon Artists and the Art Centre of New Jersey. He exhibited his work broadly throughout the United States at museums and galleries including The Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. From the early 1930's through the early 1960's, he was awarded over 20 prizes and medals for his work and was listed in Who's Who in American Art as well as the International Directory of Arts. His work is represented nationally in over 30 museums and public collections.
