Francisco Jose de Goya (1746-1828) was a Spanish painter and printmaker. He was considered one of the most important Spanish born artists in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Both the last of the Old Masters and one of the first moderns, Goya was quite successful in his lifetime. He was also an expert portraitist. Goya traveled all over Europe, experimenting with different themes in his art.
