    This exceptional lidded jar by innovative American ceramic sculptor Waylande Gregory circa 1940 has an orange-red glaze with white patterning forming bands throughout. A white phoenix bird with gold and black details tops the lid. A glossy white interior brings brightness to this piece. 

    About the Artist:
    Waylande Gregory (1905-1971)
    was a prolific and influentially innovative ceramics sculptors in the early 20th century, typically in Art Deco style. He created and refined techniques for monumentally sized ceramic sculpture on a scale which had not previously been achievable. His career started early as his talent and interest was evident. He had many phases of his career in which his style and focus evolve, working in many notable American cities and institutions.
