    SOLD Original oil painting of a flower seller on the Place de La Madelaine. Painted by listed artist Edouard Leon Cortes (1882 - 1969). Housed in a contemporary gilded frame. Included is the original frame with the JJ Gilespie label on the back.   

    About the artist: 

    Edouard Leon Cortes was born in Lagny, France in 1882, the son of noted Spanish Court Painter Antonio Cortes. He became one of the most popular Paris street scene artists at a time when Paris was the art center of the world. He began exhibiting his works in 1899 at the age of 16. His paintings of Paris street scenes and monuments achieved awards and recognition throughout his lifetime. His works have sold at major auctions houses throughout the world such as Christies, Sothebys, and Bonhams.


    Provenance: Acquired from the previous owner directly from JJ Gilespie.
