    Carved in Athens, Ohio “American Daughter (Jane)” by renowned artist David Hostetler takes the form of a girl with cropped yellow hair and a matching yellow dress. Smooth divots throughout the piece add interesting texture. The girl’s stance has a graceful sway with a powerful profile. Carved from elm, this painted sculpture has a natural base with a rich finish. The signed base indicates that this was recarved May-June of 2001, at age 74. 

    About the Artist:
    David Hostetler (1926-)
    is a wood sculptor and bronze worker who has dedicated his artistic career to capturing the essence of femininity in three dimensional works. His works belong to over 25 museum and gallery collections internationally. Hostetler also taught higher art education for 38 years, adding to his diverse background that includes working as a farmer, engineer, and salesman. His spectrum of interests, including women’s history, shamanism, and jazz music, informs his artistic direction.
