About the Artist:
One of the most renown photographers in the world, Ansel Adams was very shy in his early years due to an accident that occurred when he was a child when an earthquake rocked his home so badly that he fell on his face and broke his nose. From a young age Adams was taken with nature, living in an affluent house in the sand dunes of the Golden Gate in California. In one of many family trips to Yosemite Sierra, his family gave him a small camera starting his career.
In 1919, Adams joined the Sierra Club which was vital to his success as a photographer. His first published works were in the club’s 1922 Bulletin and his first one man exhibition was in the club’s San Francisco headquarters. Adams’ photographs of landscapes show his passion for environmentalism as well as his skill for photography.
