The Monitor Top refrigerator by General Electric was originally introduced in 1927, named for the resemblance between the exposed compressor and the cylindrical turret The Monitor, a Civil War gunship. Designed by Chief Engineer Christian Steenstrup (1873-1955), this was the first refrigerator made from all-steel as previous versions used wood to imitate other household furniture. This 1930s version has furniture style legs reminiscent of this ideology. Three large iron hinges and lever latch adorns the front of the door. The compressor is encased in a banded cover, designed with easy cleaning in mind. The interior contains the original racks. Reimagine as your personal bar cabinet!

This refrigerator is just one of hundreds of antiques that are available at our location in Grandview! Come in today and see the full collection.
